Sigma 150-600 Sports vs Canon 100-400 II. Jun 3, 2015. The Sigma 150-600 Sports has that extra 200mm and boy is it sharp. Any time I take a photo with this beast it seems very sharp to me. Its handheld stabilization is simply amazing. Ive been told the Canon 100-400 II is sharper and has wider apertures throughout the range.

Sony E-mount shooters have a couple of excellent alternatives to consider, though: The Tamron 150-500mm F5-6.7 Di III VC VXD and Sony FE 200-600mm F5.6-6.3 G OSS.. The Tamron 150-500mm F5-6.7 is only slightly less of a handful than the Sigma 150-600mm F5-6.3, even though it has less reach and is less bright at full telephoto.
Looking at the specs and measurements, the Canon EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM Lens vs. Canon EF 500mm f/4.0L IS II USM Lens comparison shows the 600mm weighing slightly less (push your jaw back up) but measuring more. The 600 has electronic manual focusing and a 1-stop-higher-rated IS system (5 vs. 4).

On the excellent EF 500mm f/4L IS USM Lens, I love that lens, is good, not great, but passable. Sadly that said I use my Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM Sports Lens 95% of the time when I need or use a telephoto. I do have the Sigma 1.4x tel-con for it which again is OK, good, not great, but passable. Go get the Canon 1.4x tel-con.
